The causes and symptoms of lumbago
What is lumbago?
What does it mean? Lumbago refers to lower back pain, which is usually accompanied by limited movement. The unpleasant symptoms mostly appear when making a wrong move (e.g., lifting and twisting the torso at the same time), but the problem is generally caused by a spine that is overloaded on one side. To avoid the pain, a person adopts a forced posture. The pain intensifies when sneezing, defecating, laughing, coughing, or jolting, making everyday life significantly more difficult.
What causes it?
The cause of lumbago usually stems from the flattening of the discs located between the vertebrae. In this case, the two vertebrae located one above the other come closer together, and the joint capsule connecting them gets pinched. It can also be caused by disc degeneration or injury to the muscle and ligament system that stabilizes the spine, as well as tumors or inflammation.

What can we do if it has already developed?
Reducing and eliminating the pain is the primary task. In case of severe pain, it is advisable to lie on a hard surface in a position where the pain does not occur, thus reducing the load on the painful part of the spine. To relieve stiffness, warming, massage, muscle relaxant cream, or possibly anti-inflammatory medication should be used. After the pain subsides, it is worth investigating the real cause of the lumbago. In the long term, the only way to combat it is to take this problem seriously and prevent the occurrence of new pain.
How can lumbago be prevented?
Prevention is possible by restoring the spine's statics and correct posture. Movement is important, as well as maintaining a sufficiently straight posture, even supported by pillows, during static positions. If we do sedentary work or can only perform our work in a certain posture, it is important to regularly move our body and stretch, ideally every hour.
