The effect of stress on our skeletal system

If we allow it, stress becomes a part of our daily lives: waking up to an alarm clock, getting ready on time, arriving, the hardships of commuting, workplace problems, standing in line, shopping..., the list is endless.

Mental causes - physical symptoms

According to the unanimous opinion of experts, the background of spinal complaints is often not organic but psychological causes. This does not mean at all that the pain does not exist, only that psychological reasons lie behind the problem. But how can our psychological problem manifest as physical pain, can our lower back really hurt because of our anxieties? This process can be clearly traced. A psychological problem, stress, or conflict situation causes muscle tension, muscle stiffness. As a result, the vertebrae may move closer together, the discs may flatten, and the pressure in the joint capsules may increase. These factors can all generate pain in the skeletal system and often appear as lower back pain. The lower back pain then comes to life as a new psychological problem, and the snake bites its own tail.

Good advice

In stressful situations - if the situation allows - try to perform pre-practiced breathing exercises. This helps to calm down and see things more clearly. In case of back pain, instead of taking painkillers, try to find a solution to the situation, the root of the problem. Practice yoga, meditate, exercise! Try to spend more time in the fresh air. Carry out your daily activities in a spine-friendly way.
